DRESS CODE

 

The purpose of a dress code is not to inhibit any personÕs taste in attire, but rather to facilitate the process of education through reasonable guidelines which instill dignity and pride.  Safety, modesty and cleanliness are our goals.  Since some types of clothing do not encourage students to be aware of these goals, the following types of clothing are prohibited at Franklin County Middle School:

 

  1. Baggy pants                                                          
  2. See-through or mesh clothing                            
  3. Halter tops or spaghetti straps                           
  4. Off the shoulder blouses
  5. Pajamas, blankets, or bedroom shoes                                     
  6. Garments with holes that are above the knee, including tops, pants, and jeans---this includes PATCHED holes      
  7. Hats, visors, or other head garments, including sunglasses and hair picks, combs or sweatbands
  8. Garments which display emblems relating to sex, drugs, obscenities, and/or abusive substances, such as tobacco and alcohol  products, or anything deemed disruptive by the administration    
  9. Any head bands, bandanas, clothing, body markings, piercings, or body art that would indicate gang membership
  10. Any face or body paint
  11. Writing on clothes or bodies of yourself or others
  12. Garments that expose the midriff and/or breasts
  13. Tank tops-(4-finger width straps are acceptable)
  14. Running shorts, short shorts or skirts
  15. Bare feet
  16. Heelies (shoes with wheels)        

 

The following dress code standards must be followed:

1.   Pants must be worn with the waistband above the upper curve of the buttocks.

2.   Shirt tails should be no longer than the length of the wrist with arms extended by side with shoulders relaxed.  Students who do not comply with either will be required to tuck the shirt in or change clothes.

3.   Shorts, skirts, dresses must be at least 1 inch below the longest finger when the shoulders are relaxed and arms held straight down by the individualÕs side.  Skirts worn with leggings or tights must also follow this rule.

 

Warnings should not be expected!

 

Students must comply or parents will be called to bring more clothes or to pick up the student.  lf a parent/guardian is not able to be contacted the school will either provide an alternative outfit (when available) or isolate the student until the parent can be reached.  Consequences will be administered to students who repeatedly violate this policy.
