As a lifelong resident of
Franklin County, David Phillips attended Royston Elementary,
Franklin County Junior High and Franklin County High School,
graduating in 1980. After graduation, he completed an AA
degree in education at Emmanuel College in 1982 and a BSED
in Industrial Arts Education at The University of Georgia in
1984. He received the Churchill Scholarship at UGA and
completed a Masters in Education in 1985. While attending
UGA, he was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, and the Golden Key
Honor Society.
Dr. Phillips taught at North
Forsyth Junior High School in Forsyth County Georgia for 2
years and returned to Franklin County to establish an
Industrial Arts program at Franklin County Junior High in
1987. To further his education, Dr. Phillips completed a
Specialists degree in Educational Leadership in 1998 at
Clemson University and completed a Doctorate of Education in
Leadership and Supervision, in 2004. He is certified by the
State of Georgia in the areas of Reading, Engineering and
Technology Education, Gifted Education and Educational
Leadership.
As the sponsor of the Technology
Student Association, Dr. Phillips has enjoyed participating
in state and national leadership competitions in engineering
and technology. For the past 23 years, the FCMS TSA
students have been awarded the Georgia Outstanding TSA
Chapter award 20 times. The FCMS TSA Chapter has won 450
state and national awards to date.
