My name
is Dawn Osborne, and I have been chosen to represent
Franklin County Middle as Teacher of the Year for
2009-2010. I graduated from the University of Georgia
in 2002 with a degree in Middle School Education with
concentrations in both Math and Science. As graduation
day approached the College of Education encouraged it’s
students to apply for numerous positions throughout the
state. For me, I had my eyes set on FCMS. As a
successful Franklin County native I wanted to give back
to a community that gave so much to me. I began
teaching 7th grade math at Franklin County
Middle School in the fall of 2002. As I strive to
become a life-long-learner I obtained my Med from
Piedmont College in 2007 and am looking forward to
pursuing an advanced degree in administration in the
far away future (did I mention I have 5 children).
I truly
believe there are only a few people in today’s world
that can honestly say they love their job. I am proud
to say that I am one of those few. I look forward to
providing my students with a quality education each and
everyday. Middle school students are unique. Their
personalities usually change throughout the day. They
may not even be the same person you met in homeroom when
they return to you 7th period, but with this
comes a true challenge. They challenge me to think and
in return I use this new found knowledge to dig deep and
plant seeds that maybe someday will provide them with
the skills they need to be successful in an
ever-changing world.
When
people ask me what I do for a living I say “I teach 7th
grade math”. The common response, “Why?” My reply,
“Why Not?”. I have the privilege of making a difference
in lives of children. As unusually as it may seem,
middle school students yearn for structure, discipline,
and someone who cares and I can provide those things for
each students at least one hour a day.
I am
truly honored to be Franklin County Middle School’s
Teacher of the Year!
