6th Graders are AWESOME!!!  And so is MATH!!!  I am in my 8th year of teaching and this is my fifth year teaching 6th grade. I graduated from Jefferson High School in 1999.  I then graduated from Emmanuel College with a degree in Middle School Math and Science in 2003.  In my third year of teaching I began my Masters Degree and graduated from Lesley University with a degree in Literacy.  I have since received certification to teach reading and gifted education.  I received my specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College in April of 2009.

My husband is Blake Haley, a 2000 graduate of Franklin County High School.  Together we have one son, Taylor William Haley.  He is such a blessing to us!  I love my family!!

I consider myself to be a life-long learner.  A person who enjoys listening to what other people have to say and doing the best I can to apply it to who I am as a person, a Christian, a student, a teacher, etc.  I can remember being a student interested in learning throughout elementary school and into middle school.  I love middle schoolers!!!  In my seven years of teaching, a year has not gone by when something that had been done previously was either abandoned or changed to something new.  Education is forever changing and evolving into what we hope to be the best for every child.  I believe that my greatest contribution in education is the ability I have to adapt to change and take it as a challenge for myself and for my students.  I would consider myself to be a guinea pig when it comes to new instructional strategies.  I love trying new things and making them work for every student I teach.  I want to contribute to the life of every child that walks through my door.  I want my students to see that I am knowledgeable in the material I am teaching and that I want to share all that I know about math and how it applies to life.  I want them to know that I care about each of them and what the future holds for them.

I believe that my greatest accomplishment in education is graduating the students I have taught.  It is absolutely amazing to see students in the classroom working and setting goals, and sometimes struggling to understand standards, but ultimately accomplishing such a great thing in life, and graduating! It is very rewarding for me to talk with students I’ve taught that have graduated.  Some are enrolled in college to be teachers or nurses, working at local grocery stores, or working on their family farm to continue their family’s farming heritage.  To see their smiles and the joy they have in their hearts is the most wonderful thing for me to experience as one of their teachers.
Teaching is a profession of challenges.  Challenges come in finding ways to meet the needs of every student, creating new and innovative ways to assess students, making time to communicate with parents about student successes, and the list goes on.  It is with these challenges that come rewards. I don’t teach for recognition from others, I teach for my students.  The best reward is the smile on a face when that math problem was solved with confidence and was correct. There is no other feeling in the world than when a child feels successful! And I want all of my students to experience that feeling many more times in their lives.

Mrs. Haley was chosen to be the Franklin County Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011. She was also chosen as the Franklin County School System Teacher of the Year, too. Congratulations Mrs. Haley!

Listen to what one of Mrs. Haley's students has to say about her.
